The three primary types of MIS systems for decision making are operational level systems, management level systems and strategic level systems. These types of MIS systems exist for each functional area like Marketing, Finance and human resources. Operational level systems consists of transaction level processing systems that record everyday transactions. The management level information systems provide reports related to important data required for decision making. The strategic level systems are used for making decisions for planning for the future like forecasting based on the current trends. The operational level systems will consist of information systems related to billing or order processing. The management level information systems will give reports related like sales management etc. The strategic level information systems are to plan and forecast for short term and long term periods.
