Job characteristic model has five components:skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy and feedback. Skill variety, task identity and task significance let employees experience meaningfulness of work.Skill variety reduces boredom. And hence it increases satisfaction and i motivation. It motivates them; it increases productivity, reduces absenteeism and improves job satisfaction. Because of autonomy, employees experience responsibility for outcomes of work. Feedbacks help in gaining knowledge of the actual result of activities they are doing. Assigning more significant task to people help in engaging them. Autonomy inculcates the idea of belonging and greater responsibility. Job identity enhances job satisfaction.I will be more interested in jobs which include both enlargement and job enriching. Expert Solution

Job enlargement means to increase the task variety, without any pay increment. Whereas, job enrichment means to add more responsibilities, authority, and extending work with increased pay or benefits. It involves promotions, posting to other branches, roles, etc. Job enrichment focus on the career development of the employees. Job enlargement is applied to increase the job engagement, and reduces boredom on work.

So, I don't agree with the given statement because, job enrichment is referred to a process that satisfy the employees, and job enlargement is referred as a process that adds more responsibilities to the work. Whereas, in actual sense, job enrichment adds more responsibilities and authority to the work, with multiple roles. Job enlargement involves adding tasks related to the same job and role without making it challenging.

For example: a customer care may executive may be provided with additional work along with his routine indoor and outdoor Calling, viz, handling and fixing meetings with clients and also closing the deals. This is an example of job enlargement. He is not given any increment, but he is provided with variety of tasks so that he won't feel boredom at workplace.

If the customer care executive is provided with more responsibility and is offered a higher post, like, customer care officer, who handles some team members along with generating sales and conversion, with pay increment. Then, job enrichment is used in this case.

Considering the job rotation, which means to assign the employees to handle different kind of jobs one after the other on a similar level. It helps to enhance the skills and capabilities of the members, and make them expertised in their work. It can be considered as a method of job enlargement.
