How do you calculate the concentration in ppm from a gas chromatograph? The chromatograph is from a BTEX mixture and shows a peak for each component of the mixture. Bromobenzene was used as an internal standard. How can you calculate the concentration of each component using the ratios of peak area? Is there a specific equation for this?

Thank you!

A gas chromatograph is used to measure the amounts of various compounds that are present in a sample. It contains a counter that gives a value proportional to the amount of the compound present. An experiment was done to see what the effects of the Flow Rate (fast or slow) and the Concentration (high, low, or medium) have on the Count. Each mixture was run 5 times and the total count was recorded each time. a) What are the factors,...

1. In this experiment we injected the sample to be analyzed by Gas Chromatograph equipped with an FID (Flame Ionization Detector). The detector ionizes the sample as it reaches it, and the peak is proportional to the number of ions with a live flame. Explain in detail, why we need to run a standard when the GC is equipped with an FID detector to identify the component in a sample?
