Scenario: Your direct supervisor is interested in a project you are currently working on, and they have asked to increase the scope to increase the department's goals.
How would you respond if your supervisor was not the project sponsor?
I would present our current Project scope to my Supervisor and detail the status of involvement of Project stakeholders in my Project currently. Once I have taken him through the same, I shall request him to understand our current Project sponsorship status, based on which our entire team efforts are laid upon, for the achievement of the Project goals. Besides that, I would also request him to pitch in the Project sponsors in the picture because without financing element directly involved in the Project, widening of the Project goals to match that of the Department’s goals, may be very challenging. So basically, the role of the sponsorship need to be explained to my Supervisor, because he may not be directly involved in all arenas concerned with the Project. He may only possess a general idea but since my Supervisor is not our Project sponsor, there could be a possibility that his ideas pertaining to the finances available to increase the scope of the Project, may be limited. So in my response, I would try to draw his attention upon the same to make him reconsider his opinions upon the Project scope.
