What are current examples of myopic thinking in health care?
Below are some current examples of myopic thinking in healthcare -
1. Paying for value - The view of pay for value delivered is ideally referred to the value delivered over time to the patients rather it is being considered from a short-term perspective eg. imnmediate value delivered for a specific service provided. For some, the value delivered can be lower costs but for some it can be the better quality of treatment irrespective of costs involved and for some, it can be the combination of both.
2. Selling as a service - Hospitals/health care providers usually look for immediate business in terms of patient visit and treatment but tend to ignore the long-term perspective in helping the patients look forward in life goals by getting treated for long-term health issues. Patients will be best satisfied if the healthcare provides look at a health issue as an obstacle in patient's life that need to be cleared but the providers look for the revenue earned from short-term treatment or resolution of patient issues.
