Is Systems thinking is important for health care administration leaders to gain understanding into health care quality. The internal structures, processes, and outcomes, as well as the external environment, have significant and sometimes predictable effects on the delivery of cost-effective and quality health care. Describe the organization that I could selected and Explain the input, throughput, output, outcomes, and feedback from a systems-level perspective for the organization you selected.and Draw a diagram representing the system of the organization that I could selected. Explain why it is important to understand systems thinking in health care organizations. Be specific and provide examples.
Systems thinking is a problem solving approach that analysis the problem within the system and surrounding environment that interact with the problem and form the process to achieve the goal . It is used in management and other industries from agriculture to health care sector . In health care it is known as systems based practice.
In the health care system ,it is important to understand system thinking because- at patient level ,the goal of system approach is to make the health care practice more successful by making patient care and other facilities available to the patient . System thinking will improve the patient outcome and safety . System thinking in the healthcare is used in various areas like to reduce waiting lines ,improving screening practice to diagnose sooner and to start the treatment etc. It will help in providing a patient centered quality care which is accessible to all , is cost effective and provided timely .
Example of an organisation like AIIMS
1. As the patient initially comes to the emergency the patient is send to screening area where the patient is categorized according to the severity and the care required.
2. Then the patient is shifted to main emergency / surgical emergency/ paediatric emergency according to the category.
3. Then provision of care to the patient which is patient centered quality care after ininitil assessment (vitals, investigation etc).
4. Then transfer of patients to ward if admission is required aand the if the patient doesn't require admission then after assessment and provision of care and if continuous supervision is not required the patient is discharged.
5. In this way the patient is provided patient centered quality care with out any delay . A patient feedback form is filled by the patient on discharge so that improvement can be made on lacking areas.
