3 kg of air in a closed movable container undergoes a few processes. Initially, the air with P1=330kPa and T1=70°C is cooled without producing any work until P2= 100kPa, and then it is expanded according to PVn=cont, where n=1.84 until the volume is double. The air again will be heated without changing the volume until the temperature of the air increase to the initial temperature. It is then cooled with constant pressure until the volume becomes 0.5m3. The air undergoes isothermal compression process with Wb=-130kJ. Finally, the air undergoes a polytropic expansion to the initial state.

A closed, rigid tank fitted with a paddle wheel contains 2.2 kg of air, initially at 200oC, 1 bar. During an interval of 20 minutes, the paddle wheel transfers energy to the air at a rate of 1 kW. During this time interval, the air also receives energy by heat transfer at a rate of 0.5 kW. These are the only energy transfers. Air is contained in a piston-cylinder. Initially, the 0.35 kg of air is at 2 MPa and 350°C. The air is first expanded isothermally to 500 kPa, then compressed polytropically with a polytropic exponent of 1.25 to the initial pressure, and finally compressed at the constant pressure to the initial state. A hot-air balloon is initially floating (stationary) a few metres above the ground. The radius of the spherical balloon is 6.25 m, and the density of surrounding air is 1.29 kg m-3. "Ballast" is weight of negligible volume that can be dropped to make the balloon rise. How much weight would you have to drop overboard to make the balloon rise 105 m in 15.0 s? You may assume that the density of surrounding air remains constant.
