As a sample of what you know about equilibrium, select THREE items from this list and discuss how each of them pertains to equilibrium: Colligative properties, Free Energy, Batteries, Temperature, pH.
Free Energy --> is a function which allow sus to determine the "free" energy available to do work in the system.
So
for
G = H - TS at constant pressure... we can determine if the reaction will bee spontanous or not.
For dG >0, this will not be spontanous, for dG = 0 , this is in equilibrium and fi dG < 0, this is spontanous
Batteries --> they are nothing more than a redox reaction, a sample will be oxidized (loses electrons) and another sample gets reduced ( receives electrons)
therefore, they produce electric current, flow of electrons. They will achieve equilibrium when Ecell = 0, which is when concnetrations of reactant are all reacted to reduced products
Temperature --> in equilibrium, temperature is an important role
For endothermic systems, increase of T favour reactions
for exothermic --< increase of T will NOT favour reaction
when
d G= 0, equilibrium
then
dH - T*dS = 0
so
T = dH/dS
which is typical for an equilibirum reaction
