Solutions

Expert Solution

iv) Ecology is the study of interactions among organisms and their biophysical environment which includes both biotic and abiotic components.

v) Halophiles- The organism which live in marshy lands ( mangroves)

thermoacidophiles- they grow on extreme temperature and acidic conditions.

vi) Abiotic components are the non living component (wind, sunlight, radiation ,humidity, soil)

vii) biotic component- these are the living component of the ecosystem(producers, consumers, decomposers)

viii) physical factors-rainfall,temperature

   biotic factors- predators and competitors

landscape- the structure of land or area in an ecosystem this have impact on migration of species

ecosystem- is the large community of living organisms in a particular area and its interactions with the physical environment

community-is a group or association of population of two or more different species occupying in same geographical area at the same time.

population-a group of organisms of a species that interbreed and live in the same place at a same time.

organism-is the simplest level in ecology , it is an individual

biome- a large naturally occuring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitate

biosphere-the regions of earth or atmosphere where living organism occur

major abiotic components- sunlight, wind, humidity, rainfall

macroclimate-climate of large geographic area , this may be global, regional, or landscape level.

microclimate-climate of a small area

To stay alive, all organisms must keep their biological systems stable even though they live in a changing, and sometimes life-threatening, environment. To maintain this stability, organisms continually monitor and respond to changes in the environment. The internal stability that organisms maintain is known homeostasis. Homeostasis sometimes appears with the words dynamic equilibrium or steady state. These terms all involve the idea of “a constant balance.” If an organism’s monitoring systems fail, disease or even death can result. Diseases in...

Diffrent groups of organisms had to overcome as they evolved to live in terrestrial environments. What do you see as the biggest obstacles that different groups of organisms had to overcome as they evolved to live on land? Describe ways in which different groups (including plants, arthropods and vertebrates) were able to meet these challenges.
