Select a health problem of interest and find a study that investigates the cause (etiology) of the health problem.
Focusing on a specific cause for the health problem, provide a brief overview of the study findings by addressing the following: the type of causal relationship that exists (e.g., direct or indirect)
the evidence provided to support the existence of a causal relationship?
To what extent might bias have influenced the findings in this study?
Health problem of interest: Lung cancer among males and females around 40 years of age
Study that investigates the cause (eyiology) of the health problem: The varous factors that cause the lung cancer among people are studied.
Specific causeof the problem: The main cause of lung cancer is seen to be excessive smoking. Smoking cause lung cancer not only to the person who smokes but it affects those who are around the smoking person also. "Smoking is a silent killer".
Type of causal relationship that exists: There is positive correlation between smking and lung cancer.
Bias: The investigation on the correlation study of cancer caused by smoking can be biased by cigerette manufacturers advertising that their particular brand of cigerette is used by even doctors etc. so that the concentration of the researchers can go astray. So, proper care must be taken to see that no bias enter the reasarch project.
