Select two types of observational study approaches and apply those study approaches to a health problem of your choice

Solutions

Expert Solution

In case of observational research, the researcher does not intervene with the experimental conditions, instead, observe the changes occurring from several aspects and determine the factors influencing. The results of Observation research leads to the experimental research. Examples of two observational studies include,

  • Case-control study
  • Cohort study

The case-control study is an observational retrospective study in which two groups are compared on the basis of exposure to the cause of disease attributes, At the end of the study, the results are compared with the initial status. The two groups in the study include people that are exposed to certain conditions or diseased and another group includes the people that are not exposed to the condition.

For example, when studying the effects of eating vegetables on the occurrence or prevention of lung cancer, we can also include smoking as one of the observational condition because it is the most common cause of lung cancer.

The cohort study is an observational prospective study, which is very useful to determine the cause of the disease. In this, a group of people called as cohort shares the common characteristics or exposure were compared with another group of people drawn from the general population.
