Do all example of racism stem from ethnocentrism? Give one example of racism that does not come from ethnocentrism?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Firstly racism is basically a prejudice against a person or people of certain group, and ethnocentrism, simply called cultural ignorance is a way to see his/her own culture as the correct way of living. No,all example of racism does not stem from ethnocentrism as racism can be defined as a judgement call or may be forming an opinion based solely on the color of one’s skin or their racial background, whereas when we define ethnocentrism its not that you hate or dislike the others but that you hold your own in higher regard. So its more like not hating others, but loving your own more.Sometimes, both racism and ethnocentrism are taken on similar notes, but are quite different. It is seen sometimes that some examples of racism has been arisen up from ethnocentrism but not all ,like for example the gender racism of LGBT community .In this the gendered racism is not due to ethnocentrism thinking that we are best, but its all about stereotype thinking of hating/disliking and not accepting their feelings and prefernces about each other. So basically all racism does not come from ethnocentrism.
