Consider a performance review process that you have been part of as an employee. Was the process effective? Did it motivate you to better performance? What, if any change in the process you experienced, would have made it better? If the process that you experienced was a positive comment on why you think it was so.
One of the performance review process, that I was a part of was when I worked for a stock trading firm. The performance assessment factors were i. the number of client accounts and ii. the amount of brokerage generated by each employee. Since I was aware of these factors, I knew what I had to do to accomplish them. The review did not motivate me to perform better but it definitely helped me avoid mistakes the next time. The standards set for every individual became clear through this process.
The performance review that I received during my time in the trading firm was competent and positive because I always managed to get a satisfactory review. The one thing that would have motivated me to perform better was the incentives after the review for doing well. Since the review was just how I had performed, I was not surprised at the outcome and the only impact the review had was it helped me avoid errors and perform without falling short of the benchmark set for me.
