In your opinion, how can effective communication be accomplished? What are three specific communication behaviors that you need to work to enhance? How might you enhance those behaviors while participating in the leadership process? Support your answer with information from the text and lecture notes.

In order to establish effective communication it is important to facilitate an environment which will assist and help in ensuring smooth flow of information among the people so that the message communicated is logical, understandable , reliable and complete. Effective communication can be accomplished through identifying all the elements of noise in the environment and and trying eliminating them to increase the understandability of message. Another most important factor to be taken into consideration to accomplish effective communication is the clarification of authority and responsibility so that each individual knows whom to report. Strong bond and positive relationship and congruence with each other will help in transmitting of correct information through the environment.

In my opinion the three specific communication behaviours that I need to work to enhance will be :

Listening skills : It is important for ne to improve my listening skills. I need to stay alert, patient, cognizant and aware during communication to prove a good listener in order to understand the message properly and share the information as it is.

Using non verbal gestures : It will be very beneficial for me as a communicator to use non verbal gestures and signs so as to make message more effective and interesting.

Clarity and concision : Another important behavior would be to incorporate clarity in message and making it to the point without using buffer or trivial details, so that message becomes easy for others to read and understand.

While participating in a leadership process I will make sure that I actively listen to my team members and participate in communication process. I will stay alert while idea and opinions are shared or discussed. Moreover I will put forth my point which is relevant, logical, concise and clear for others to understand irrespective of the background differences. I will use my hands, strong eye contact, good body language to lay emphasis on my point of view or idea.
