This increased melanin pigmentation leads to darker skin tone which prevents the damage to the DNA.

The darker skin tone have a greater immune power and heat tolerating capacity comparing to fair skin people.

The evolutionary pressure of skin lightening skin tones is due to fair skin people migrate to the areas away from equatorial region and made a change in skin tone as evolution.

After the migration of fair skin people the skin tone is changed in evolution by gene mutation.
