(i) Provide a method for separate gamma and neutron dosimetry in mixed radiation fields.

(ii) Briefly discuss activation foils method for neutron spectra derivation? Briefly discuss albedo neutron dosimetry method and it advantages and disadvantages ?.

Solutions

Expert Solution

i) Two types of LITHIUM FLORIDES are used to separate gamma and neutrons dosimetry. MTS-6 which is rich in 6Li and is sensitive to thermal neutrons and MTS-7 containing very less amount of 6Li and almost no neutron response.

therefor, 6LiF is having the highest thermL neutron sensitivity of ay phosphors. within a few 0.1mm of penetration most of the neutron will be absorbed inside MTS-6. howver as there may be need of an additional fiels measurement which allows correct response for this energy response because of their ehanced response to lower energy neutrons.

ii) Its MULTIPLE FOIL ACTIVATION METHOD for neutron spectra derivation .

Only DOSIMETER can measure the doses of neutrons over the range of whole energies. ALBEDO NEUTRON DOSIMETER measures the indirect neutrons, scattered by the human body creating a neutron flux of thermal and albed neutrons on the surface of the body.

their DISADVANTAGE include mainly the strong energy dependence of their response. their main ADVANTAGE are high sensitivity and reduced angular dependene.
