Women, until the 19th century were considered as passive citizens and child bearing machines who would look after the household chores. They were denied property rights, rights to education, right to voting, right to control their pregnancy etc. Several factors such as enlightenment movement, industrial revolution, and racial fights contributed to the rise of the women in America.

Women had to fight for their voting rights and many women came to the streets fighting for their rights. Women had to fight for their property and education rights which they got it. By 1870, the awareness about fighting for women’s rights was prevalent among all the people in America.

Today, when we look back, women suffered a lot in the hands of men and religion played a major role in keeping women as second class citizens without any legal rights. Few brave women initiated the civil rights for women movement that demanded rights to education, property, suffrage etc.
