The women's right movement was the beginning of the fight for women's suffrage in the US.It focused on franchise for women along with other objectives like free from sexual violence,to hold public office,equal pay, right to property and education etc.Women realised that in order to bring reform in such fields , they should get the right to vote.Elizabeth Candy Stanton,Susan B Anthony,and Lucy stone were important figures of this movement.
Susan B Anthoy fought for women's right to vote and also against slavery and alcohol. In 1872, presidential election ,Anthony voted illegally and was arrested and fined $100 which she did not pay. She realised that in order to take part in politics, first they should get right to vote.She was not allowed to speak at a temperance convention as she was a woman.She was the president of National women suffrage association from 1892-1900.She was the first crusader for women suffrage in US.Due to her hard work, women were given the right to vote in the nineteenth amendment of the constitution in 1920.In addition to fighting for women's right to vote she had other accomplishments as well, like abolishment of slavery,she was a top leader in American equal right association,the newspaper,The Revolution ,which was published weekly and supported women's right ,was established by her along with Stanton, she helped in finding the international council for women,She was the honarary president of the international women suffrage alliance,due to her efforts married women property act was passed,etc.Thus she was regarded as feminist icon
