what do the numbers on the very left side of stem plot represent in ch 1 prob 10AYK of the basic practice of statisitics (7ed)?
In the Stem and Leaf plot is use for the to summarised the data graphically. in these case the data is divien into stem and leaves part.
The Left side part is called as Stem and Right side part is called Leaf..so the data set are arranged or divide in the two parts one as stem and another is a Leaf.
When the data in the two digit number, the unit place are to be treated as Leaves and Tenth place numbers are treated as stem.
example : suppose the number 41 . here stem is 4 and leaf is 1 ,
another example is number 14 here stem is 1 and leaf is 4
summarisation of the data is done by collecting all the numbers having same stem. so in that case we make two columns, first column is for the stem and the second columns is for leaves.
when the data consist of three digits numbers then the first two digits ( hundread and tenth place ) is treated as stem and the last digit or unit digit treat as leaf.
example : the number is 145 , here 14 is stem and 5 is leaf.
when the data are of the type like 10.4 then here stem is 10 and leaf is 0.4.
We take the number is 27. so here 2 is treat as Stem and the 7 is Leaf.
