What kind of distribution would you expect the mean.median and mode to be equal?
If the distribution is symmetric, what measure of central tendency should you use?
If the distribution is skewed, what measure of central tendency should you use?
1.Mean , Median and mode are all same in a symmetric distribution.
But this can not be always said. As there are some distribution which has no mean.like cauchy distribution. And there can be more than one mode in some distributions. So the right thing will be for a symmetric distribution which has a single mode and whose mean existis Mean = Median = Mode.
2.Mean is the best measure of central tendency for a symmetric distribution.
If for a symmetric distribution mean exists then it will be the best measure of central tendency as the data are distributed symmetrically. And mean is easy to calculate for every distribution. If mean does not exists then you can choose median or mode depending on your data.
3.Median is usually used to calculate central tendency for a skew distribution
If you using mean in a skew data it will give an inappropriate result. So median or mode is used here.. Median is more preferable.but you can use mode also depending on your data.
