Introduction:
As the CEO of the firm, there will be lot of strategic decisions and vision alignment that needs to be done so that the product can perform well in the market. The automobile industry is currently growing at an exponential rate and while this has improved the options for customers and provided better vehicles, there is also huge emission of chemicals which are directly affecting het environment and the human population. The product the firm is proposing is ‘CleanWheels’ which will reduce the harmful emission from the automobiles.
Mission of organization : To create a product that will reduce the harmful emission from automobiles. The goal is to create a safer planet for future generations to come.
Purpose: To reduce the carbon monoxide, nitrogen and sulfur by 15% through the chemical solution filtration process of CleanWheels.
As the CEO, I would do the following action items as part of 5 year plan:
1. Study the market and get insights regarding the product requirements from the end customer point of view. In any business scenario and environment, there is a constant change in the macro and the micro environment factors that affect the business portfolio. To identify this, there are multiple techniques that are used. Few popular tools are:
• SWOT Analysis
• Pestle Analysis
• Five forces
• Balanced scorecard etc.
In all these above techniques there are various factors that are considered by the company before implementation or going to full scale rollouts. Few of the major elements that are focused highly by companies are Strengths, differentiation value and threats from other areas. In case of Pestle analysis, the focus is towards getting input and changes in business environment from political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental perspective. The focus area in these parameters is the immediate and long term threat that can happen to the company. In case of five force model, again the focus is on the powers in the industry and the consumers. It also gives an inference which
relates directly to the threat that a company can face.
I would directly oversee teams to do a detailed market analysis and understand whether the market and product has similar products. If there are some products, I would understand why they failed or succeeded and what different competencies are present in my product as compared to others.
2. Launch the product with minimum viable features that are required at the moment. Other important features can be added as part of upgrades. There are many leader who delay the launch of product till they get all the features built which may lead to opportunity loss by the organization.
3. Do tie up with local vendors and gas stations to promote the product well.
4. Expansion of Markets
• In years 1-2 expand with big gas stations such as BP, Mobil, Shell etc. in large metropolitan cities in the US: New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Austin and Denver.(Productions Manager (Shalena)
• In years 3-4 expand internationally Middle East, South America, India, Asia, Australia and Canada
• In 5 year: Expand overseas to emerging markets, look into incorporating into gas production
• Export CleanWheels to the oil-exporting countries to mix it with gasoline such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Russia
5. Product diversification and Expansion of Products
• Introduce 2nd and 3rd generation products for bigger vehicles like big trucks (for example 18-wheeler trucks)
• Eventually expanding our product to work with diesel gas .
• Continue to develop new products and to improve existing products and services.
• Continue marketing research
6. Expansion of Staff
• Hiring and training more staff with a focus on teaching our principles/values.
• “Buy-in from staff.”
• Big Data: hiring business intelligence experts.
• Use emerging technologies to improve the solutions
• Build a competency pool of resources who can adapt to the growing market changes
• Ensure the legal team is strong to manage any lawsuits or cases filed against the organization.
7. Improve the Service levels with a goal related to improving customer experience, service satisfaction and customer retention.
8. Promote CSR activities and coordinate with local authorities and important leaders like senators to promote the brand and focus on giving back to the community, through philanthropy (that connects to our mission) and volunteer organizations.
9. Ensure there is a good working culture within the organization. When the work force is motivated and happy the services and products delivered would significantly improve.
10. Develop proper mechanism for reward management and improve compensation benefits to internal teams
11. Create a feedback mechanism for customers to share their opinions, view and based on these items, continuously improve the product
12. Apply for world class certifications like ISO 9001 to show the product is compliant will recognized world standards.
13. Develop a relationship with startups who are working in same field to jointly promote a safer automobile environment.
If the CEO can put all these items into action, they can lead the organization successfully.
