The similarities of three flood stories:

The most common similarity in all the three flood story is that the flood was intended to wipe out the the mankind for their rebellion, wickedness and sinfulness. The flood in all thrre stories occurred due to the wrath of divine. The protagonists in all three stories were morally good and were warned of the flood. They built huge arks. They took animals and people in the ark to be saved from the flood. All three flood stories depicts the flood as a global one. At the end of the flood each of protagonist offer sacrifice and recieve blessings from the divine.

The difference in the three floid stories are:

  • The Biblical story depicts the wrath of Yahweh for man's wickedness as the cause of flood. The protagonist of this flood story is virtuous man called Noah. Yahweh warn Noah directly about the flood and instructs him how to build the ark. Noah takes only his family members and a pair of each kind of animals to the ark. Biblical flood lasted for 40 days. Noah sent out a raven and a dove to guage the conditions. Noah's ark landed on Mt. Ararat. He received blessings to populate the world.
  • In the Sumerian deluge, Zi-ud-sura, the king and priest is the protagonist. He was warned by God of water EA or Enki about the flood, a plan by Gods to destroy mankind for their noiseness. He saves mankind by building a huge boat with the help of Ea. At the end he is blessed with eternal life by the Gods.
  • In the Epic of Gilgamesh Utnapishtim receive a warning about flood by the assembly of gods in his dream. He builds a huge ark and takes every kind of animals, along with his family and other people.The duration of flood in this epic is of six days. Utnapishtim sent out a dove, a swallow and a raven to guage the condition of flood. The ark lands at My.Nisir. Utnapishtim receive blessing of eternal life and is taken into the heaven by the gods.
