Suppose that you are the Safety Manager for a company, and you have to find out if a new method of safety training is better than the method you are currently using. Explain how you would do this by conducting a between-groups experiment with the workers, who are organized into 10 teams.

You must answer in complete sentences for full marks.

  1. State a Hypothesis. (0.5 marks)
  2. What would you measure to find out if the new training method is better? (1 mark) Identify a limitation of what you measure or how you measure it. (1 mark)
  3. State the Independent Variable and the Dependent Variable. (0.5 marks)
  4. Who would be in the Experimental Group and who would be in the Control Group? (0.5 marks) How should these groups be assigned to avoid any bias? (1 mark)
  5. What would you do with the data you collect to test your hypothesis? (0.5 marks)

Expert Solution

Assuming that I am the safety manager of a company, and I have to find out a new safety training method that should be a better one than the currently used one. I have 10 teams, and it should be done between groups experiment with the workers.

Hypothesis: The hypothesis I use here is that, If I use a new method where there will be either no injuries or less work-related health issues, health and safety risks to be controlled, then the health and safety is completely guaranteed.

What to measure:

How effective the new one than the previous one?

Hazard burden should be nil or negligible.

Measuring the reactive monitoring of the new training.

How to plan and implement?

Limitation: May not be accurate during testing the hypothesis. You can get the real and actual result only when you apply it in real time. Time factor is the limitation here. The number of samples in the group may not be the same when you implement it in real time. Here, we test it for a group of people only and not to the whole.

In our case, the Independent variable is the time spent on the training program, participation of the training program, and score of our test expected.

Dependent variable is that the actual participation of the group used.

Who would be in the Experimental Group? Who would be in Control Group?

Senior managers are in the Control Group here. Managers and supervisors will be in the experimental group and the organization has to decide how to allocate the responsibilities, to whom, they should also decide how much level of detail is appropriate. Close monitoring needs to be done.

This should be unbiased, for which you can combine both well experienced and a fresher, the final result should be decided by the management.

With the collected data, I need to approach the management for implementation of the same. So that, the new improved (as proven by the hypothesis) safety training program would be taken into effect by the company as early as possible.
