Explain how the Integumentary, Skeletal, Muscular and Nervous Systems all work together to perform an everyday action (like driving, reading, or talking on the phone…you pick an action), then give an example of what would happen if just one system failed, what would occur specifically to the other systems? List 2-3 things. Make sure you are specific with references to each system and how they connect to one another. (12 points) (example….muscles are triggered to move by nerves which move the bones)
Integumentary system acts as the protective barrier against the external environment that compoed of skin, hair, nails and exocrine glands of the skin. It also accompanies various sensory receptors through which the appropriate communation can be made between external and internal environment. Nervous system comprises PNS with afferent and efferent neurons along with processing centre called CNS. Muscular system is crital for all visceral functions via contraction and movement is aided by skeletal muscle contraction. Skeletal system comprises bones of the bone which along with muscles produce movements. Stimuli is sensed vis sensoory receptors of integumentary seystem which is transmitted via the nerves to the brain and sinal cord of nervous system. Action potential for muscle contraction is carried via motor neurons which instructs skeletal muscles to contract which in turn pulls the bone to produce movement of limb.
Failure of any one of these system impact the communication between them leads to disorders. Examples are congenital analgesia in which sensory receptors of integumentary failed so that the pain cannot be sensed. Lambert–Eaton syndrome and myasthenia gravis are some which affect the neuro muscular junction and affect the neuro muscular communication.
