Expert Solution

Every project and task has to go through expected or unexpected, anticipated, or unanticipated obstacles in the course of achieving on time, and with minimal costs. The project is to develop an iPhone with expandable memory in the limited time with the least cost in the current situation. The project's scope is to develop a much efficient and effective iPhone because of negative feedback from the consumers about the memory. The consumers demand a memory card for expandable memory as it will increase the mobile phone's storage space. It will also enhance the demand for the product. The first obstacle in the process is the design of the iPhone. Apple has not designed the phone is such a manner that the memory card fits in. It has to take steps to change the design of the iPhone to enhance the storage space. Secondly, it might not be cost-efficient. It is because a change in the design of the product involves enormous costs. It is difficult for the company to deliver the final product at a minimal price. The last obstacle is the timely production. A change in design or product innovation requires the managers to repeat the steps from the planning stage. It will consume much time in the company. Hence, the company might not be able to achieve the goal with efficiency and effectiveness. The company should think of steps like increasing the iPhone's internal storage capacity to save time and cost.

A potential new project would cost $1000 today. The 1st stage of the project would last 2 years. There are 2 possible scenarios for Stage 1 net cash flows in years 1 and 2: 1) $1,060 per year, with 50% probability; or 2) $0 per year, with 50% probability. If the 1st stage outcome is good (with non-zero outcomes), the firm will reinvest an equal amount in year 2 (the same amount invested at year 0) and extend the project...

Felicity Manufacturing is considering a capital project which will cost $50,000 at Time 0 and which can be sold after 3 years for $10,000. $12,000 must be invested at Time 0 in inventories and receivables; these funds will be recovered when the operation is closed at the end of Year 3. The project will produce sales revenues of $50,000 per year for 3 years; variable operating costs (excluding depreciation) will be 40 percent of sales. No fixed costs will be...
