Solutions

Expert Solution

1) The stem cells are the cells which can differentiate into many cell type. The stem cells are present in the Stratum basale layer. It is the lowermost layer of the epidermis. The cells move from stratum basale in upwards direction. All the cells in other layers of epidermis are derived from the stratum basale.

2) When the interphalangeal joints make a fist, the angle of the joints is reduced and the flexor surface of fingers and the palm are approximated. This type of movement is called flexion. Adduction means moving the fingers to the side. Circumduction means rotating the fingers. Extension at interphalangeal joint doesn't occur. Answer is flexion.

3) Scoliosis means sideways curvature of the spine. Most common is postural scoliosis, which is seen in adolescent girls (teenage girls). Teenage boys can also get scoliosis but they have lesser chances than teenage girls. Elderly women get degenerated scoliosis. Pregnant women have less chances. Answer is teenage girls.

4) When we stand at tiptoes, the ankle gets lifted up and this movement is called plantar flexion. The reverse, when ankle is grounded and the toes are lifted up, is called dorsiflexion. Answer is Plantar flexion.
