After the experiment, the researchers discovered that one participant in the high fat group was currently taking two prescribed drugs: orlistat (lipase inhibitor) and colestipo (bile acid sequestrant) and one participant in the high protein group was currently taking a prescribed proton pump inhibitor (reduce stomach acid production).
How is gastrin, CCK, motilin, secretin and GIP impacted by the prescribed drug/medication for each respective meal and explain the impact (i.e. does the prescribed drug/medication affect the release and/or action of the hormone?)
- Orlistat and a high fat meal
- Colestipo and a high fat meal
- Proton pump inhibitor and a high protein meal
Gastrin is not a main gastrointestinal regulating hormone
because they play a certain rule in gastric relaxation and
intragastric pressure. This affects the motor function which is
directly related to acid secretion. Cholecystokinin is the kind of
member of the gut hormone in which the intestinal release of the
cells in response to dietary carbohydrates and lipids are observed
through the protein-coupled receptors. Secretin is the kind of
hormone which is responsible to regulate the water homeostasis to
the body and influences the environment of the duodenum. A gastric
inhibitory polypeptide(GIP) in the form of glucose-dependent
insulin or polypeptide in which week innovator of gastric acid
secretion is observed that plays an important role to stimulate the
secretion of insulin.
-Orlistat and a high-fat meal have an unpleasant side effect which
includes the liquid stool and urgency to go to the toilet. This is
also apparently observed with high fat represent that fat is
consumed to be removed from the body.
-Colestipol and a high-fat meal are generally taken with the meals.
This is taken in the granules with small water or with crushed
pineapple. This is a high protein and vitamin in which one can
prevent the absorption of folic acid.
-Proton pump inhibitors and the high protein meal is widely used
for the treatment of gastroesophageal Reflux or any form of the
lactic acid disease. High protein meals are helping to manage the
diet and better for the suppression of acid.
