Describe the process of involution of the uterus
Involution of uterus is the process of transformation of uterus from pregnent to non pregnent state. It is a physiological process which occur after parturation. Uterus returns to pre-pregnent size, normal position in pelvic cavity, and regain its muscular tone.
After delevery of baby uterus control bleeding by contraction of muscles. The crisscross arrangement of muscle layer helps to constrict blood vessels during contraction of muscle causing less blood flow. This is early stage of involution. Involution occurs by autolysis and phagocytosis. During involution muscle undergo autolysis to reduce its size. The involution is completed at around 6 weeks postpartum.
