Expert Solution

Given molarity , M = 12.0 M

Molarity is the number of moles of solute present in 1L of the solution

In the given problemthe molarity is 12.0M

So 1L of the solution contains 12.0 moles of the HCl

Mass of HCl = moles x molar mass of HCl

                  = 12.0 mol x 36.5 gmol-1

                 = 438 g

mass of 1000 L of solution = density x volume
                                      = 1.18 g/ml x 1000 ml
                                      = 1180 g

(a) weight percentage of HCl =

                                    =
(b) Molality ,
