The structures of the cochlea are responsible for ___, whereas the structures of the saccule and utricle are responsible for ____ equilibrium, and semicircular canals and ampulla are responsible for ____ equilibrium.

Solutions

Expert Solution

*Structures of cochlea are responsible for hearing.

Cochlea is a coiled structure in the inner ear, which helps in hearing.Basilar membrane of cochlea contain Hair cells. When sound wave hit oval window due to fluid nature of inner ear, it leads to vibration of basilar membrane so that hair cells touches the tectorial membrane. Tectorial membrane vibrates, this information is carried by vestibulocochlear nerve into auditory cortex which eventually helps hearing.

*Saccule and utricle are responsible for maintaining static equilibrium., and semicircular canals helps maintain dynamic equilibrium.

Ear maintains both static equilibrium & dynamic equilibrium .

Static equilibrium -It refers to maintenance of proper head position during changes in linear motion like walking.Static Equilibrium is the function of saccule and utricle. They have small stones & viscous fluid which stimulate hair cells to detect motion & orientation that helps in balancing

Semicircular canals are responsible for maintaining dynamic equilibrium.

DYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM means when one is moving or his head is moving.

Semicircular canals have mechanoreceptors called Crista ampullaris which helps in maintaining dynamic equilibrium

In certain breeds of unicorns, the allele "Z" is responsible for rainbow wings whereas the contrasting “z” allele produces wings that have white. Unicorns heterozygous for this pair of alleles have glitter wings. Another pair of alleles influences the shape of the horn. “H” produces a straight horn whereas the contrasting gene form “h” results in a twisted condition. A unicorn heterozygous for this pair of alleles is mildly curled. Give the phenotypic and genotypic ratios to be expected from...

Organizational structures have changed greatly in the last 50 years. Whereas most organizations were once rigid and centralized, most organizations are now taking advantage of flexible and decentralized structures. 1) How have these new structures affected employee/manager relationships? 2) What impact have they had on organizational strategies? Provide examples to support your point of view. To ensure immediate feedback, please submit a response between 100 and 1000 words. Essay length alone will not necessarily result in a high or low...

A group of bird embryos was studied to see if the hair cells in cochlea were able to regenerate after trauma. The first group of bird embryos was treated with growth factors similar to brain-derived neurotrophic factor molecules. The second group of bird embryos had specialized growth genes introduced into their genomes through a virus. The third group was untreated and left to develop without growth factors and gene therapy. The total number of hair cells per cochlea was determined...
