37. What are B-1 B cells? What is the role of the B-1 B cells in the immune response?
38. What is the role of marginal zone B cells in the immune response?
B Lymphocytes or B -cells or antibodies function very differently from T- cells. They do not have a direct cytotoxic effect on cells. B-cells produce and secret antibodies into the body resulting in humoral immunity. Each B- cells is programed to produce only one specific antibody or immunoglobulin.
B-1 B cell belong to the sub class of B cells. These cells are found in peripheral sites. B-1 B cells are capable of memory response.
Role:
This cells are involved in antibody response during vaccination or infection. They are unique because they can recognise protective antigens in bacteria. They can recognise more intracellular antigens. They can spontaneously secrete IgG3 and IgM serum antibodies. They express high levels of IgM.
Role of marginal zone B cells:
In humans marginal zone B cells are non circulating mature B cells.
This cells are considered as first live defenseman aganist blood borne antigens. They adapt crossover defence strategy. They present faster antigens to T-cells than follicular B cells.
