1. What are the functions of the following elements found in eukaryotic cells? a) lysosome b) Golgi apparatus c) mitochondria d) endoplasmic reticulum
Ans a) The function of lysosome:-
1. Lysosome are responsible for the degradation of large particles taken up by the phagocytosis and for the gradual degradation of the cell's own components by autophagy.
2. They are responsible for the removal of the dead cells.
3. In liver and panceas of some birds lysosome have a role in protein synthesis.
b) The function of Golgi body:-
1. It process and synthesize some macromolecules likes protein and lipids.
2. Major transport of the protein occur through the cisternae of golgi complex.
3. Glycosylation of protein takes place in golgi complex.
4. Golgti apparatus is also a mojor site for carbohydrate metabolism.
5. In plant cells, the golgi apparatus acts as the site where complex polysaccarides of cell wall are synthesisied.
C) The function of Mitiochondria::-
1. It is the power house of the cells where ATP is produced the energy currency of the cell required for the metabolism of all the macromolecules.
2. It is site for the cellular respiration through Electron Transport Chain.
3. Macromolecules like protein, and liver are breakdown through a series of enzymatic process of beta- oxidation, Kreb cycle and ETC to form energy.
D) The function of endoplasmic reticullum:-
1. The rough ER is responsible for the synthesis of protein where as smooth ER is responsible for synthsis of lipids.
2. Glycosylation of proteinn takes place in ER after protein synthesis in ribosomes.
3. The formation of disulphide bond of the protein takes place in ER.
4. Membrane lip[ids like flipppase, scramblase are synthesized in the ER.
