How does alkalosis result in hypokalemia?
When the body has too many bases it results in alkaloses. It can also occurs due to the presence of excessive blood alkanity.Excess blood alkanity is caused due to the excessive amount of bicarbonate in the blood .This is known as metabolic alkalosis.Rapid or deep breathing results in the low level of carbon di oxide in the blood.This is known as respiratory alkalosis.
Potasium is an essential mineral and it is one of the bodys electrolyte.When dissolved in body fluids ,these carry an electric charge .Low levels of pottassium can lead to hypokalemia.Potassium is an alkaline mineral .For treating hypokalemia pottassium bicarbonates may be given.Because it will raises the amount of pottassium levels.
Metabolic alkaloses is in which the PH of tissues is elevated beyond the normal range.Due to the low extracellular pottassium concentration,potassium shift out of the cells.To maintain electrical neutrality,the hydrogen shifts into the cells.This causes the raising of blood PH.
