Apply information from Module 5- Cardiovascular System. For your discussion board post, list two risk factors for cardiovascular disease and briefly comment on societal impact. The two most important risk factors in any cardiovascular are - smoking and cholesterol.
1. Cholesterol- high serum cholesterol is a major risk factor in cardiovascular disease. The cholesterol gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels and makes them narrow. This cause low volume of blood to flow creating low oxygen supply to various organ.
2. Smoking- smoking affects the lungs drastically. It reduces the working capacity of lungs. So lungs functions inadequately and supply less oxygen to the blood vessels causing severe problems. Also, smoking directly affect the Heart by its toxic effects. Various toxins in tobacco cause increase in heart rate, arrhythmia and tightens the vessels.
Lifestyle modification for preventing cardiovascular diseases are-
1. Eat healthy food. Avoid taking highly fatty and junk food. High cholesterol diet will affect your heart drastically. Avoid these type of high fat containing food.
2. Quit smoking. Smoking directly affects the lungs and heart. It also reduces stamina. Try for nicotine chewing gum if having problem in quitting smoking. Do exercise regularly.
