Describe how companies can balance the need for diversity in their workplace with employment law considerations. (250 words or less)
The employment related laws such as
Equal Employment Opportunity laws by (EEOC) and Title VII of Civil
Rights Act of 1964, strictly prohibit any kind of discrimination by
the employer on the basis of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, age and
se-xua-l orientation among the others. It makes the companies to go
for the objective based criteria to select the candidates on the
basis of merit, qualification and eligibility. It ensures that laws
are complied with as well as diversity is also implemented in the
organization. Further, the company can use the affirmative action
related regulations to employ women and individuals from the
minority communities. Here, the need of diversity is properly cared
while fulfilling the regulatory obligations. Besides, the companies
can identify their diversity needs and give job related
advertisement in those newspapers, local dailies, colleges and
community websites that are largely accessed by the particular
group of individuals based on sex, gender, race or minorities. It
will create a good number of job applications that will make the
job easier for the companies to select the right candidate of the
right profile, with diversified background. It will fulfil the
diversity needs of the organization. Companies can also promote the
employees with diversified background into the management level so
that the diversity needs at each level is fulfilled.
The company can work towards the community development and give
training programs to the individuals. Later on qualified
individuals can be absorbed by the company to meet the diversity
needs without violating any law or regulation.
