Water is one of the most important life-sustaining force on earth. No life form can survive the absence of water. Whether it is desert or rain forest, the ecosystem is heavily focused around the amount of water available.
Water can dissolve diverse compounds, so it is righteously called a universal solvent. Water has good heat retention capacity which allows water to contain a lot of heat and allows temperature control in the ecosystem.
Earth, as we know today, is overpopulated and there is
a heavy burden on water, whether it is domestic or industrial
usage. Hence a lot of water is becoming nonpotable. Several cities
around the globe are already facing an acute shortage of potable
water which is putting millions of lives at risk. Due to the
increasing human population and overconsumption, we are in constant
lookout for higher yields and increased production.
Life outside the earth, in search of rare minerals,
new elements, and possible human settlements depends on water. If a
planet has water, it can have life. Hence search of water also
solves the mystery around alien life forms. In addition to that,
water is found in outer planets can one day, allow for human
settlements and expansion of human civilization. Hence astronauts
are in constant search for water on exoplanets and beyond.
