Tell me about psychopathy. What are behavioral and physiological features of psychopathy? What can cause it? How does psychopathy differ/compare with sexual sadism?
psychopathy is personality disorder where an individual manifests antisocial behaviour, cannot create and maintain meaningful relationships etc
there are 3 main parameters on which Psychopaths are identified:
Boldness - low fear low tolearance to any situation
Disinhibition - demand for immediate gratification, lack of planning and foresight
Meanness - lacks empathy and close associations to any one
Behavioural and physiological features of a psychopath are
they are narcissist - to the extreme level of destroying the other person
always dominating consider others to be their property
cannot feel other's emotions
language is purely instrumental does not carry emotions
they possess rock solid ego and not influenced by others
Causes of Psychopathy are:
there is no one cause to it a combination of below mentioned factores could cause it
Genetics, environmental and interpersonal factors, early life experiences, poor parenting, parenting that focuses on punishment (rather than rewards), substance abuse by the parents, separation from a parent or lack of parental involvement, child physical abuse or neglect.
Sexual sadism is both apersonality disorder as well as a personality trait where as Psychopathy cannot be seen as a trait its’ a bunch of traits that are all lumped into a single personality disorder.
Psychopaths don't go out of their way to harm people where as sadist very well know how to harm a person
sadism is no longer considered to be a personality disorder by the DSM IV. In the DSM V, sexual sadism is a personality disorder that’s also considered to be a paraphilia. However, this personality disorder doesn’t cover the non-sexual side of sadism. Psychopathy is still very much considered to be a personality disorder.
