Hey, just curious about psychology and its use in emotional therapy. Can anybody tell me what are the best ways that are used to help with emotional support just by the means of conversations? In other words, what are the applied techniques that are used by therapists to help with emotional support using normal conversations?
It would be great if you could also explain the different types of emotional therapies there are. Thanks.
When using emotional support in conversation, the therapist normally listens to the client to finish and not interrupt. In counseling empathy is required not sympathy.Instead of symapthizing it is advisable to make the client understand what he is going through is difficult but there are ways he can come out any situation through rational thinking.A therapist should not feel sad along with the client rather feel emapthy towards the situation.
The different types of therapies are Cannon Baird therapy where in an event there is arousal and emotion,in schachter-singer theory in an event it leads to arousal, reasoning and then the emotion. In lazarus theory in an event it leads to a thought then the emotion and arousal. There are two types of emotions, the positive and the negative emotions.Walter.B.Cannon claims that in an event our emotional reaction to a stimulus is faster than physiological reaction. Two factor theoty states that emotion invloves the two states, that is the physiological arousal and cognitive label of the arousal.
