Question 1:

1.

Degree of operating leverage = Contribution Margin/Net operating Income

                                                        = $ 10,000/$ 8,000 = 1.25

2.

Increase in operating income = Increase in revenue % x degree of operating leverage

                                          = 10 % x 1.25 = 12.5 %

New operating income = $ 8,000 + $ 8,000 x 12.5 %

                                          = $ 8,000 + $ 8,000 x 0.125

                                          = $ 8,000 + $ 1,000 = $ 9,000

3.

Decrease in operating income = Decrease in revenue % x degree of operating leverage

                                          = 15 % x 1.25 = 19 %

New operating income = $ 8,000 - $ 8,000 x 19 %

                                          = $ 8,000 + $ 8,000 x 0.19

                                          = $ 8,000 - $ 1,500 = $ 6,500

Question 2:

1)

Contribution margin ratio = Contribution margin /sales x 100

                                               = $ 6,000/$ 8,000 x 100

                                               = 0.75 x 100 = 75 %
