I work in an equity research and investment firm as an analyst. My organization encourages diversity by promoting inclusiveness in several different ways. First of all my organization acknowledges the differences in the work force and encourages the employees to understand and admit that people are different from one another on the basis of race, gender, religion etc. Secondly my organization offers implicit bias training for all its employees. The objective of this training is to raise awareness of unconscious attitudes and enable employees to change their behavior in an optimal manner. Mentors are provided to each employee who are underrepresented so that they have more support and so that their growth is promoted optimally. Using these steps and strategies my organization has been able to create a workplace where different perspectives are valued and embraced.
Some areas of opportunity with regard to addressing diversity within my organization is to get employees’ participation in hiring new talents and asking for referrals. Also the organization should schedule activities outside work so as to encourage communication and fun interactions among employees in a systematic manner. Both these opportunities should be used by my organization to further address issues of diversity and promote it.
