Key in a search with the prompt "projects in ___Indonesia_____" in which you select a country of your interest. Many of the projects generated by such a search are government sponsored projects. In one paragraph, discuss the role of proper scheduling and planning for one such project you found in your search. Share your findings and the reasons you believe planning was critical to this project.
The Project in search selected is MRT(Mass Rapid Transport)in Jakarta,Indonesia. The reason for selecting the project is that this is the common present or future problem of any Indian or Asian city.
Even though this MRT project feasibility study started in 190s the economic crisis in south east Asia delayed the implementation of this Project.
The local government has tried in many operational controls to control traffic congestion like Flyovers, car pooling, alternate Number vehicle travel the problem is getting compounded because of increasing population, urbanization , economic growth.finally the present Government wants to implement the MRT of total 87 KM length with initial operation by year 2018 and fully operational by 2024 with estimated passengers travel of 629900 per day.
But the challenges remain in Implementation of the Project
a.Land acquisition issues
b.Many parts of Jakarta gets flooded in monsoon level as many areas are below maximum Sea Tide Level.
c.Handling of 5 million cubic meter of material removed from underground for tunnels.
d.Heavy and long monsoon period of almost 6 months in year
e.Almost of 40% of the track length is underground.
f.Already the city is overcrowded with traffic congestion and deadlocks.
So the above constraints and challenges necessitate the requirement of proper planning and schedule in implementation of the project as any cost overrun will be heavy on financial implications and already stressed infrastructure of Jakarta city.
