Glycolysis process plays an important role in the regulation of blood glucose level . Glycolysis involves breakdown of glucose resulting in decreased amount of glucose in the blood. By enhancing the glycolysis process it may result in a treatment of diabetes . Gluconeogenesis is defined as the synthesis of glucose from the non carbohydrate compound such as the amino acids , glycerols . Glycolysis occurs mainly in the liver and the kidney regions . The supply of glucose is very important for the function of nervous system and for the the working of red blood cells . Pentose phosphate pathway result in the decrease amount of glucose in the plasma . It occurs in Absence of oxygen . It is very important in oxidative stress like conditions . CO2 is produced in the pentose phosphate pathway. Glycogen pathway involves the glycogenolysis that is The breakdown of glycogen into glucose which result in increasing the glucose level in the blood. It mainly occurs in liver in starvation conditions. Citric acid cycle or the TCA cycle occurs in the mitochondria of the eukaryotes. Citric acid involve the conversion of pyruvate into acetyl coenzyme a which result in the release of energy. There is no involvement of glucose substrate product or intermediate in the citric acid cycle .
