Discussing adaptive immune response: Which of the following statements is true?
a) does not depend on exposure to antigens |
b) | Cell memory is generated during adaptive immune response in both B and T cells |
c) | All leukocytes play the most important role |
d) | Natural killer cells play the most important role |
e) | All granulocytes play the most important role |
Option B.
Cell memory is generated during adaptive immune response in both B and T cells. Concept of cell memory in immune system is somewhat like this-- when a pathogen attacks us, immune response is elicited. Now, Ab is produced and it binds to specific region of that pathogen and destroys it. That specific region has unique structure which differs from pathogen to pathogen. After the pathogen is inactivated, the B cell and the T cells which fought against that pathogen tend to remember that specific unique structure of binding site on the pathogen body. This is stored in their memory. Now, next time when that same pathogen attacks, they start to produce Ab as quick as possible without wasting anytime. So, quick recovery is possible.
