Describe what happens to glucose after it arrives in the bloodstream following gut absorption.
Use bullet points and complete sentences for clarity of your answer.
Glucose is the carbohydrate which our body uses as a source of energy for functioning of the cells.
1. complex carbohydrates are broken into simple sugars like glucose in the gut. from the intestine the glucose is absrobed by glucose transporters in the intestinal wall into the interstitial fluid.
2. from the interstitial fluid the gluocse enters the hepatoportal vein which is called as first pass metabolism beacuse all nutrients like proteins carbohyrdtes enters this vein.
3. In the liver onw third of the glucose is stored as glycogen which is used for the future puropose and remaining is released into the csystemic circulation.
4. The gluocse enters the blood and circulates in the body. as the blood glucose level increases the pancreases release a harome called insulin, which is necessary for the cells to take up the glucose. without insulin glucose can not the cells.
5. after the glucose enters the cells it undergoes glycolysis to produce ATP , which is energy for the functioning of the cell.
