1. Feedback
I would increase employee engagement by asking for feedback by using a monthly meeting or a company survey. The employees would be encouraged to give feedback about the office environment, office culture, workload, policies etc and inputs how we can we improve it. By asking for feedback and inputs, they would feel that they too are important and would motivate the employees to remain engaged in their work.
2. Encourage personal development
I would organize a gathering every two weeks in the afternoons to engage all the employees in creativity and collaboration. It will transform the workplace and would make the employees professional lives enjoyable. It would establish a channel for regular communication and a company culture where people feel happy at work. When the work place is inclusive, supporting and fun and employees are happy, growing, learning, they would engage more in their work.
3. Communicate well and more often
I would encourage employees to communicate with me (HR professional), about any concern or any issue that they face. I would establish and cultivate an environment of transparency. They should feel that their voice is heard and it is valued. By sharing their issues and concerns, and acting on the feedback, this would help employees to engage in their work.
4. Saying “Thank You” and expressing appreciation
I find the most important way to increase employee engagement in the workplace is by appreciating employees work. I would acknowledge and recognize their hard work and effort towards the company goals, by showing appreciation and saying thank you. Recognition helps to motivate and engage employees. Words of encourage can go a long way and would definitely push the employees forward.
5. Taking breaks
As a HR professional, I would encourage employees to take mini 5 minutes breaks from their desk. It’s a great way to remain focused and give full attention to their work.
