Anti-N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis
What is the treatment?
Anti N Methyl D Separate Encephalitis is a form of Encephalitis which occurs mainly in women.This is a type of brain inflammation due to antibodies.This is actually first discovered in 2007 , when a group of people identified with some prominent neuropsychiatric disorders and found to have serum or cerebrospinal fluid antibodies to NMDA Receptor.The common clinical features can be auditory and visual hallucinations, delusions, impaired consciousness, motor disturbances, seizures, headaches, fever.Another trigger reason is the virus Herpes Simplex.
Treatment : First line treatment can be immunotherapy.Intravenous immunosuppressants can be administered to supress the antibodies.
Plasmapheresis: Exchange of blood ,which is also considered as the removal treatment.This can be done to remove antibodies from the plasma.
Second line treatment can be with a monoclonal antibody that is Rituximab.Cyclophosphamide an alkalyzing agent that is used to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases.
Surgical removal of tumors can also be done to avoid progression of cancer and disease.
