Perceptions differ from person to
person. The perception of an individual is a strong indicator to
his/her decision making outcomes. Evaluate the role of perceptional
influences under such circumstances.
The behavior of people is based on
what they perceive. Perception can affect decision making when:
- Selective perception: when people
tend to interpret depending on what their attitude is and what
their inclination is. As a result, when decision is made by people
it would be towards the inclination that they already had.
- Decisions can be impacted when
people have an impression about a person or a situation which
affects their decision.
- Contrast effects: perceptions are
hampered when a person would compare themselves and someone else in
order to rank a person, affecting their decision quality.
- Stereotyping: where a person would
judge another person on the basis of some generalisation already
made about that person or a community hence forming a connotation
(positive / negative) about them .
- Overconfidence bias: where a person
who is overly optimistic would think other people to be dumb and
make decisions about other people in a demeaning manner.
