An information system can be divided into five categories of hardware, software, data, people, and process.

Hardware, software, and data come under one category of technology. Hardware is physical components and software is a set of instructions that tells the hardware what to do.

Whereas people focus on an organization that includes people working in the organization from the help desk to Chief information officer and process is the steps taken to achieve some goal.
