Planning:

Chief Information Officer is responsible for strategic planning for business growth, they are responsible for gathering information for the task in hand and checking if the requirements are feasible.They should plan the implementation of new systems and provide guidance to IT professionals and other staff within the organization

Programming

They should have a good background in development, software architecture design and should have previous experience in development and overseeing the engineering team. CIO should also monitor changes or advancements in technology and keep the team up to dated.

Budgeting

They are responsible for creating a budget and allocating resources accordingly. They have to make sure that the budget is not exceeded.
