how has the development of techniques that give physicians and families greater control over the timing of death led to consideration of aspects of the determination of death that were not previously debated? What drives the current interest in keeping some patients alive given that there is little to no chance for their ultimate recovery?
Development of techniques have helped physicians and families to make more accurate assessments of longevity of life of the patients, more clarity upon what can be improved and what cannot be done as well as scope of any emerging technologies that can come up in some time to help patient recover. Further, development of new techniques also helps in slowing down the damages done to the patient by a disease, if these techniques cannot help recover the patient from that disease. It makes the patient to get some more time to live and timing of death can be delayed. Hence, different aspects to be discussed to determine the timing of deaths are prolonging of the life by delaying the negative impact of diseases, new emerging medicines with renewed hope of some recovery or application of some medicines who are under trials, but can help patients, can be discussed with the help of new techniques and these new dimensions are not discussed to decide the timing of the death.
It is the hope of new medicines
under trial that can help patients recover or medical science
getting more information about the impact of these medicines upon
the human beings, that make some interests in keeping the patients
to be alive. There is a smaller hope that patient can recover up to
some level, or scientists will have some data to improve the
medicine formulation for the future. Besides, it is the families's
own hope that makes the patients to give some more time to let them
recover with the use of existing medicines.
